Free audiobooks

30 Sep

I have been listening to audiobooks from the time that Books on Tapes really were on tapes. I listened to such favorites as Issac Asimov autobiography In Memory Yet Green and  Somerset Maugham’s Moon and Sixpence while looping around the track at the old Cleveland Y on Prospect Avenue. I discovered that audio books not only allowed me to consume many more books than I had time to read, it increased my appreciation for the language used. Indeed, there are many books (such as Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashesread by the author) that are more beautiful, more moving, as audiobooks.

I estimate that I read an additional twenty books a year just from listening to audiobooks.

LibriVox makes public domain audiobooks available for free as downloadable mp3 files. Enjoy!
