Bad Teacher

17 Nov has inaugurated a new podcast series about education; Schooled. The first installment should be heard by anyone concerned about education. It is an interview with John Owens, author of Confessions of a Bad Teacher: The Shocking Truth from the Front Lines of American Public Education

One of the things I find most appalling is the misuse of measurement. I firmly believe that measurement can be used in ways that help both students and teachers, but the use of invalid measures, such as teacher value added assessments, and attempts to reify vacuous concepts, such as dispositions, has created perverse incentives that will do serious damage to public education.
