Weapon focus effect

At a talk yesterday I learned about the weapon focus effect. When a person is held up with a gun or knife there is a tendency to focus on the weapon itself instead of the assailant. Thus, victims will have vivid memories of the weapon but hazy recollection of the person who held it.
